Jotham, Gideon’s youngest son and the only survivor of Abimelech’s massacre, recited a parable about how his brother unlawfully slew all his brothers and received the position of king over Israel. This parable has many lessons for the Christian, whereby individuals who are not fit or prepared for a particular responsibility should be humble and stay in the background. We learn here how God chooses certain individuals for specific roles and tasks, and how we should not force a position or talent upon ourselves if the Lord is not leading us to it.
