During Israel’s 40 years of wandering in the wilderness after being under Egyptian bondage, God provided miraculous literal providences to help them stay on course. A large cloud covered the entire nation, providing shade by day and light by night. A pillar from that cloud led the journeying Israelites and represented God’s presence with them.
